Guys, I am admitted to both and am having a hard time making my final decision -- I am leaning towards Stanford. I think the close knit environment at SEAS suits me well, but the resources and research offered at Stanford are hard to pass up. Any Comments would be appreciated especially from current students...
Thanks!

ru kidding buddy, go to stanford....Columbia SEAS and stanford are world's apart....

Worlds apart? Why do you say that?

Wow! Stanford as a transfer. Congrats!!! umm, u would get more sound advice if you state your specific major. I would go to Stanford. Harder to get into. Stanford is ranked 2 in undergrad engineering while columbia is 27 (US news). But i might be saying irrelevant info, since i don't know your major.

My prospective major is Biomedical Computation which is in the engineering school. But then again, I may just finish up with a math or physics degree too...coming in as a junior -- it sorta depends on if I can do it all in 2 years...

Go to Stanford

Stanford, it's only gonna be 2 yrs.

aside from rankings -- any reasons?

If u were smart enough to get in both schools, u are probably smart enough to make the rite decision. Idk y u are having such a hard time choosing. If it was Cornell vs. Stanford i could see y it would be difficult. But Stanford vs. Columbia? No one has yet suggested Columbia. i wonder y?

I know the rankings speak for themselves, but I am interested in learning about the campus culture comparison, social life, professors, rigor and a slew other various factors too. I want to make sure I make the right choice and find the best fit. Anyone?

b/c i know a ton that go to columbia, the engineers are like second-class citizens, which is unfortunate, b/c they aren't, but that's the campus culture around columbia

True. At Columbia you are looked down upon unless you go to Columbia College.

It's been 2 hrs. and 20 min. since the first post, and i think this thread is closed. Last remark i'd like to make: many columbia engineer admitted students would give their left nut/breast to be able to go to stanford. I know i would (since it's not my right one). LOL

Why do you guys think there is a inferiority complex for SEAS students from CC students at Columbia?

They're both elite private schools...they both have tons of money per student... they're both dominated by well-off kids. The culture difference is not going to be drastic. Except Stanford will be more laid-back with better weather and higher rankings. What else do you need to know?

b/c columbia college students are really competitive students. Many fell "just" short of places like yale, princeton, and harvard. Columbia is arguably one of the most selective schools in the country, and its students want to let the world know that. SEAS students are very qualified, but admission isn't nearly as difficult as it for columbia college.

go to stanford! you will need no introduction if your coming from Stanford

Can anyone comment on the grading & level of competition (mainly in math/physics/engineering classes) -- does Stanford have grade inflation?
