Stanford Transfer Applicants 2009

I have been riveted to this thread for the past hour, began on page 20 of 41. You guys are a riot, in a good way. You all are clearly very intelligent. I love the tirade from the person who didn’t get in and fuzzybear must be one outstanding individual. I went to Reed 20 years ago, I loved it and it was full of students who got rejected from Stanford. I got rejected from Stanford too but that was different, I hadn’t wanted to go, always wanted to go to Reed. But I digress.

Very upset by Antebellum’s racial rant. You’d never catch someone Asian talking like that. He is a very angry person and will probably always be like that. It’s very sad.

Please excuse me for rambling on various subjects. I am new to this online conversing stuff. But while you’re all here, I’d like to complain / warn others about the lack of merit scholarships for transfer students. The system (not Stanford in particular) is set up to attract top freshmen students to a school by means of an attractive financial aid package. THEY are trying to attract YOU. But when you’re a transfer applicant, they don’t need to attract you. You are asking them to let you in. So the merit scholarships are few and far between. Be aware of this before you burn all the bridges of your present school behind you.

Tell me about it, Columbia expected 15K out of me annually. There was and still is no way I can afford 15K so I decided on Dartmouth (almost full-ride without Gates Scholarship)

…is ANYONE here on the waiting list?

killa killa took the words right of my mouth; damn the world if everyone thought like you antebellum: YOU utterly disgust me.

It’s obvious Ante is a ■■■■■. I just felt like making the Native American comment, but apparently he misunderstood what I was saying. Surprise, surprise.

I’m really sorry that you didn’t get in, lion. :frowning: But I don’t think it was because of the SUnet thing, they’d be a load of garbage like what crdnlwhite(?) said.

But hey, at least you’re already at Northwestern - an AMAZING school.

Yea missyujin you hit it right on the head. I doubt they rejected lion because of the SUnet thing; that would’ve been the most ridiculous thing ever.

And missyujin you’re absolutely right about Northwestern. It’s an incredible school from what I’ve researched, which is why I applied there along with Stanford and a few others.

But Lion, again, you did what you could do just like all of us; you went for the impossible and unfortunately, like 98% percent of us, it didn’t quite work out. But at least we went for it. I’m so glad I shot for Stanford (my dream school), because if I hadn’t, I don’t know if I would’ve even gotten into my second choice, which is also a wonderful school. This just shows that there’s more than one reason to shoot for your dream. “Having dreams is what makes life tolerable.”

I know for me, Stanford and I aren’t finished. I’m still going to apply for grad school. Just another dream to shoot for.

Missyujin, thank you for your support. However, the SUNet method has worked pretty consistently in the past, meaning that once Stanford has put in decisions into their system, applicants who entered their 8-digit Stanford App ID and were “recognized” ultimately got in (check previous threads). It has never worked for waitlisted students. In addition, why would they ask me for a letter of explanation if I was to be rejected anyway? I believe no students who weren’t “recognized” got such a letter despite their attempt to access SUNet. Finally, I asked the admissions office directly and got a very carefully phrased response implying that I was, in fact, admitted and that they had to reconsider because of the SUNet thing.

That said, I do agree with you that Northwestern is an AMAZING school  I am so lucky to be here.

I was basically just relaying information from previous threads. And obviously, had I known this was wrong, I wouldn’t have done it or posted the details about it on the public forum.

Honestly, why am I the only one being punished? Does this seem fair to anybody else?

i feel sorry for you, lion… if i’m lucky enough, i’ll see you at northwestern! :)

what da hell you talking about
ASIANS RULE
they are my life

haha im also trying to transfer from NU…waiting from PENNNNN but no news :(

ORFEboy and petee23, totally try to hit me up if you do get in, and I hope you do!

“Finally, I asked the admissions office directly and got a very carefully phrased response implying that I was, in fact, admitted and that they had to reconsider because of the SUNet thing.”

That is unbelievable. Really, Mr. Shaw? Really? Because a student was curious about trying some silly method to access a Stanford network? Really? That is unreal. It could’ve been for ANYTHING! What if some curious kid stumbled across that SUNet site and just decided to see if their ID allowed them access to see materials or other information? What makes them think that it was directly intended to figure out an admission decision? It’s not like anyone was trying to hack information from them. This is unbelievable.

No Lion, it is definitely not fair at all. But they can’t do anything about student’s who’ve done it in the past. What is weird, though, is why THIS year is the first year they’ve made a huge deal about it. How strange is that? This whole thing is bizarre.

Yes, really. My admission offer was rescinded over the SUNet thing, and the Stanford Admissions Office admitted it by implication.

Yea, I’m the guinea pig basically haha. They want to make an example out of me to warn future applicants. However, I tried to access SUNet before Mr. Shaw’s warning, and I still got punished. Previous applicants who also tried it before the warning and got in/have matriculated are not getting punished.

Wow. Lion, I feel really sorry for you about the whole thing.

Honestly, my heart is totally shattered, but I have to be strong about this.

I’m also really surprised because the Stanford admissions people are really really nice!

Lion, did you read what Mr. Shaw said about the attempts being violations of Stanford’s Fundamental Standard? Do you agree with his statement that he posted at admission.stanford.edu?

this is wrong. hang in there.
