Stanford University Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

Submitted mine at 12:00!! Finished at 11:48 but didn’t realize I needed to hit submit…

Out of curiosity what did you guys write for your reason to transfer?

@Joseph590 I wrote on how my college research and volunteering experiences made me decide a major that is not offered by my current institution. In addition, how the research opportunities in the area of major will help me grow. I thought it sounds like a genuine reason to transfer and not because of the academic prestige only.

Hey everyone. Finally submitted my application yesterday. Student veteran with a 4.0 and some community activism. Just wanted to come scope out the competition on these threads. Looks like lots of strong applicants (about what I would expect) so, good luck to everyone in what’s basically going to be a lottery!

@Joseph590 I (maybe mistakenly) treat this question like “what led you to be a CC transfer student instead of a freshman applicant in the first place?”

Anyone else getting the message on their portal that Academic Evaluations haven’t been received, even though they’re attached to the Common App?

@lookingxaround You did mistake the question because not all transfers are from CCs. They are asking what your current school lacks and why you want to go to Stanford

@lookingxaround I’m also a community college transfer, so I talked about accomplishing all I can at my community college and the particular research I aim to do once I transfer. I talked about professors I’d like to work with, clubs I’d like to join, and in general exactly what I aim to do, as well as the “type” of student I’d be on campus based on my interests. I took the question as why specifically I want to transfer to Stanford and what I’d be doing if I were admitted. Don’t know if that helps?

@ireadtoomuch I’m surprised that you formatted the essay exactly the way how I formatted. I’m a CC transfer as well saying how I achieved all at CC lol…

Pretty close to @ireadtoomuch , talked about a small tech project I created that got acquired by a larger software company and my journey as a CC student. Also talked about Reid Hoffman’s influence and how an alumni from the school encouraged me to apply even though my chances are beyond impossible. Main essay was truly a gamble… literally opened up with an instance where someone told me that they have me by the balls… metaphorically of course. We’ll see if it pays off boys. Almost all schools I applied to had a mention of that, really excited to get that first reply/ rejection!

@neilsola well, all I can say is I’m confident it’s unique. I felt I had to really explain my background because I’ve had an unusual journey up to this point.

To any former transfer students, what is the orientation and incoming student process like for freshmen? Also - what day did you start?

I applied for Fall of this year, and I am already trying to find ways to hold over until decisions are released! Good luck to everyone else that applied!

@FollowingSeas19 Trick question? We were transfers so didn’t go through the freshmen process?

Does anyone know when Stanford starts reviewing transfer applications

I don’t know, but I’m assuming it would be after they finish the regular decision freshmen. Our decision date is not for another two months so I would be surprised if they have started.

I can tell you with 100% confidence they don’t start reviewing until April first. I am a veteran applying as a transfer and the deadlines for the veteran supplement arent until April first.

@ireadtoomuch looks like we applied to a lot of the same schools! Best of luck to you!

@Novelica You as well!

For the last week I have been looking through threads from prior years on Stanford admissions: SCEA, RD, Transfer. All I have to say is, I really really wish I knew about this site before I made the decision to apply. It was already a vey last minute decision in the first place, but it would have given me more insight as to what I was getting myself into.

All of you who are applying: you are so qualified and have shown me how underqualified I am. I am so thankful for this thread. Best of luck to all of you, and I hope the AOs are kind to you this year!

Best of luck!!!

P.S. Is it possible to withdraw an application?

@CelesteTosc 0.00001 acceptance rate is better than 0% acceptance rate when withdrawing. Stay positive my friend we are all unique we you never know if AOs will actually like you. Stick around!
