Want to consider a school with prestigious academic reputation in social science and a challenging curriculum to prepare myself for law schools.

I really want to go to the most prestigious law schools, i.e. Harvard and Yale Law School after graduation, so I would like to know which school is the best choice?

I need a place to think and learn seriously. Thanks for your advice!

they are all great places but Chicago is probably the most intellectually intense university in america. i have a few taiwanese friends and you sound a lot like them: seriously hardworking.

Either school should get you into a top law school. Stanford's GPA will be higher, but academia knows that Chicago has actual grading - not grade inflation in which everyone graduates with honors. So, just coming from Chicago, and doing well, will do the same for you as Stanford. If you can't stand the thought of getting a B or C, then Stanford it is.

Totally where I'd go if I were in your position: excellent school reputation (HYPSM, anyone?), gorgeous campus/weather, great undergraduate support, access to one of the greatest Mock Trial teams in the nation (you will DEFINITELY want that if you are looking at top law schools), great summer opportunities (San Francisco!), and so on.

I am deliberating between these schools as well. I am looking to major in Economics but I am also interested in Philosophy and Political Science/Government. I know that Chicago is renowned for Economics, but does that really matter that much at the undergraduate level?

I don't know about you guys, but I cant' stand constantly getting A's. It just means it can't be better and that everything you do is excellent, which is impossible. I like B's and C's

When you're picking among such terrific colleges, the best choice for law school is the school where you'll do the best academically, and that's likely to be the school where you're happiest. So pick based on where you want to live and the kind of college experience you want to have.

And I only say this because your GPA--that all-important law school stat--will be significantly higher there than at Columbia or UChicago (two of the toughest colleges around).

Oh, and congratulations on getting into three ridiculously good colleges. I envy your choices (though I really can't complain with miraculously getting into Chicago :D).

Grad schools realize that it is tougher in some schools to get a high GPA just like Chicago realized my low 1410 was pretty darn high for my poor public school (my school average is 980 and i have the highest score).

I still maintain that Stanford would be your best bet of these three.

Are you a Mock Trialer? Are you considering joining? That may affect your decision more. Stanford has a very strong program (like I said, they're known nationally -- won the silver bid tournament last year), but UChicago and Columbia aren't far behind. If you'd like action, you might want to choose Columbia; if you want winning, you'd probably want Stanford. UChicago is excellent as well; they often go to the gold tournament and the highest they've finished is 3rd (which is not bad at all), plus they were pretty recently formed ('97).

If Mock Trial doesn't matter, I'd still pick Stanford. :D
