Stanford VS MIT VS Caltech VS Brown

Hi guys,

I am intending to major in cognitive neuroscience, but I really like Stanford.
I like warm weathers in general.
Could you help me to decide in my circumstances, please?

Thanks

Have you been admitted to all? If not, this exercise is moot. Wait until you have been admitted and see what choices you have.

Plus, Stanford does not specifically has cognitive neuroscience major while Brown and Caltech do.
Stanford has psychology major, and some cog neurosci classes…

No, I have not applied to any of them, and that is reason why I am asking this. I was wondering which school I should apply as ED or EA.

What are you stats? EC’s? What about your intended major do you like? What is more important to you, school name, location, program, eventual Grad school?

For any ED school, it should be your ultimate 1st choice where you are willing to attend no matter what and is affordable if you are accepted.

Only you can make that choice of what is best for you. You are the one attending for 4 years and you need to feel that the school is the best fit.

I love Excel Spreadsheets, so why not make a list of the pro’s and con’s for each school including academic stats, location, academic programs etc…

You have until next Fall to narrow down your choices so now until then is the time to do some of your own research. Different posters will give you different opinions, but only your opinion in the end should matter.

These are all very selective, very competitive schools – that cost a fortune. Before anyone can advise, we’d need to know your budget, grades, SATs, ECs and your other options.

That’s perfectly fine at the undergraduate level. Stanford offers more than enough opportunities for you.

If you apply to Brown ED, you can also apply EA to Caltech and MIT. You must withdraw your applications to Caltech and MIT if accepted at Brown, however. If you apply SCEA to Stanford, that is the only place you can apply early.

Personally, I recommend Stanford SCEA if that’s your top choice. There is little advantage in applying EA to Caltech and MIT, and Brown ED is a binding agreement. Run the EFC calculators to make sure all of these universities are affordable for you.

Focus on finding some good matches and safeties. Given your stats, you have a shot at a fair amount of merit aid at a lot of places.

There’s also practically no advantage to apply REA to Stanford, unless you have hooks.

Thanks for your opinion. It helped a lot.

In a prior post on CC, it seemed you were already a senior. Have you already applied to colleges for fall, or are you planning a gap year? Or are you a junior?

@phoebe09 Seems like you should do Stanford EA since it is your first choice. The lowest risk option would be Brown ED but I would advise against that unless you would be happy committing to Brown over your other choices.

If you haven’t decided which school you prefer, then you should not apply ED to any school.

If you need to compare financial aid offers, then you should not apply ED to any school.

You have listed at least three and possibly four schools that are a reach for everyone. If you want to then apply to all of them, but definitely focus some energy on deciding on match and safety schools. In a sense reach schools may be easier to select because they tend to be famous.
