Hi,
My kid is deciding between Stanford and Northwestern HPME. Stanford has great premed advising and a wonderful undergrad exp. but I think it is very competitive. Also, I hear nw Feinberg is one of the top destinations for Stanford Premeds. That would mean we are taking a round about path to get where now. From financial point of view it would make good sense to choose Stanford would be if its premed advising can help getting into low cost med schools. Please fill in your thoughts to help us. Thank you.

what state are you from?

The medical schools that are cheap are public colleges predominantly (80-90%) in state residents. So cheaper school is usually your instate public school. Lot of students go to top undergrad schools with large FA packages but return home to their local medical schools for that reason, i.e. affordability and lower student loans.

From your previous posts it looks like your income meets full ride at Stanford and NU. Does HPME offer any financial aid for the medical school part of it? From what I know most medical schools do not.

OTOH, a high percentage of kids who go in as a premed at Stanford tend to change their mind. The kids are encouraged to explore and sometimes they decide medicine is not for them.
