How would engineering (specifically EE and ChemE) compare at Stanford and Princeton? Would either college be a significantly better choice for an engineer? What are the pros/cons of each?

Stanford is significantly better than Princeton for engineering. Princeton is one of the best Ivies for engineering (after Cornell) but in general, the Ivies are not anything spectacular for engineering. Stanford is one of the schools that is absolutely cream of the crop in engineering. That said, you would get a great education at both places. Princeton may even be better if you were looking to use your engineering degree in a non-traditional role, such as investment banking, though I have no concrete evidence to back that up. That seems to be the general consensus though. If you want a true engineering job, go with Stanford.

Thanks! good info. Thing is, I’m not sure AT ALL on what I want to do, true engineering job or a non-traditional one. Would you say Princeton would be a better choice for someone who’s not as sure on what they want to do?

Greater social egalitarianism at Stanford–more liberal than Princeton, comparatively. Less elitism at Stanford.

You are talking superlatives–pick the better psycho-social match (and better weather, too). Be forewarned, however–not that Princeton is any great shakes, city-wise, but you could die from terminal boredom in Palo Alto.

Yea, I’m edging towards Princeton at the moment. Just wanted to figure out the best way to determine where I would be able to develop my potential, succeed the most, and be the happiest…
