I think there was mention about a Stanford word counter vs. the Microsoft Word word counter in a previous post. Does anyone happen to know where the Stanford counter is located at, if any?

from what i understand, it's just word count from MS with spaces. the application itself will count the words for you in any textbox that has character limitations.

what are the word limitations for different essays?

Is it possible to fit an essay with 317 words into one of the short essay spaces?

Oh wow, I've never heard of MS..what is it?

Those are really good questions Goldfish. . .I was under the impression that each of the short answers was around 250 words, more or less? But I'm not sure how long it is for the longer response...hrmm..

it's not words - it's characters. two out of three short ones are up to 1400 chars (including spaces), third short one is up to 1300 chars. the long essay is supposed to be up to 4500 characters.

MS is microsoft.......lol. And do you still have to do a character count in you do the paper application?

no, but you have to make it comfortably readable by the adcom.
