Name a school in 1) CALIFORNIA and 2) Out of california that is at least comparable to Stanford's caliber in general.

Stanford is primarily a grad school, so for grad schools in general, Cal Berkeley and Harvard.

1) Berkeley's the only thing even close.

2) HYP

True Stanford has more grad students, but so do most schools? I feel like a lot of funding/attention is paid to the UG population.

I would say Berkeley and Harvard (not HYP).

I feel like at Harvard and Stanford there is a very large number of students with academics interests that lie in the sciences.

Berkely, CalTech, Harvey Mudd (for science/math), possibly Pomona for some majors (but it is not quite the same caliber)
2.Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT if you're looking for research Us.
Swarthmore, Williams, Amherst as well if you are looking for top-notch undergrad education.

If Berkeley is a Stanford peer school within CA then so is UCLA. There is not that much difference between UCB and UCLA.

Harvard, Yale, maybe Columbia.

im surprised only 1 person said Caltech . . .

You said "Stanford's caliber in general" but CalTech is specific in its strengths.

1) Berkeley (only one even close)
2) Harvard and Yale, (MIT if you want to compare science/technology)
