Start Summer Quarter?

My son will be an incoming freshman and is considering starting in Summer rather than Autumn quarter. He has many pre-reqs to complete before applying to major, and we thought it might help to get a head-start. We are out-of-state, however, and I’m wondering if there are other incoming freshman who start in Summer, or would that be odd? Are the dorms open and are there any transitional activities or would he just be on his own?

I am applying as a freshman and I know a couple of kids that went into summer quarter last year and I don’t think it would be odd at all. There are many people that start summer and live on campus so he will still meet and be with a lot of people!

I’ll echo stressed’s comment - I’m a freshman and I started summer quarter by participating in the SPEAC (Summer Program East Asian Concentration) program. It was nice getting to know the big campus before the start of fall quarter. Dorms are available and it was easy for me to arrange (though I think that’s because room and board was included in my SPEAC fees). I didn’t participate in any activities on campus though - I’m not sure if there were any/very many during summer quarter. It’s a nice chance to go explore Columbus when you have time though. Hope that helps.

Does anyone know when the registration deadline for this is/how the housing and dining works?
