Hey y’all! Just wondering if anyone had any insight or opinions into whether it is worth starting supplemental essays right now as a junior. With more time since school is virtual, it seems like a smart move but I fear that it is a waste of time. Obviously some schools will change their essay prompts for 2021 applications, but I don’t want to wait until August 1st to start all of them. I’m sort of relying on the fact that not all colleges change them, or they don’t change them that much so I can reuse/remodel. Is it worth starting now or is that a waste of time?
My D21 is starting supplemental essays. True, prompts may change, but you can always start working on 250-word "Why " essays. Many colleges have them, and even if they don’t, it’s a good way to make sure you feel you are a true fit for the college.
I’m in then same boat as you are-- I’m starting!! I emailed some admissions offices and completing supplementals that they say will remain the same from last year’s.
I advise you do the same if you want a head start!
Rising seniors should use the summer to write their essays. You will not regret it.
If you get in early to your dream school you will be too happy to care about the wasted effort. But if you don’t, you will be relieved that your essays for your RD schools are in good shape rather than scrambling between Dec 15th and Jan 31.
