Starting a Charity

Hi everyone! I am a junior in high school and I am an officer in my school's chapter of Mu Alpha Theta. Anyways, I was thinking about math-related service projects or volunteer opportunities, and I came up with an idea. My school is located in a town that is very well off economically; however, the nearest metropolitan area's school district is very poor and as a result, almost all of the students are on free lunches. This got me thinking about creating a charity or volunteer opportunity that I could create to run through my school's mu alpha theta, where we collect gently used calculators and donate them to the inner city school, since most of the students would not be able to afford calculators. Does this sound like a manageable project? How hard is it to start an initiative like this? I would like to create my own because I don't know of any local organizations that do this mission specifically, and I think it would be a good way to tie math into the service project. What do you guys think?
