Starting extracurricular activities Sophomore year?

I’ve read in many places that colleges pay extra attention to extracurriculars that you do freshman year and do all the way until you’re a senior. What if you start most of your extracurriculars sophomore year until senior year? Like doing DECA from a sophomore to a senior, while starting Debate as a freshman till senior year but doing better in DECA? Would it look a lot better on college apps if you had started as a freshman, especially if you had to sign up for a certain class to do it (DECA, in this case)? Could you explain that you would have done something for longer if you had the chance, or offhandedly mention it somewhere and get the point across? Does it affect your college app that much if you started an activity as a freshman vs. as a sophomore?

What about Ivy’s, or HYPSM to be more specific?

I don’t think it’s that big of a deal if you start sophomore year. I started the EC I’m most passionate about during my sophomore year. I think the more important idea is that you’re illustrating interest in something outside of school. If you end up doing very well in DECA, that’s even better.

Don’t think too hard on it.

i don’t think they care that much to psychoanalyze you to such an extent

Just do like 1 and if you have time then do 2 or 3 by junior year.
