Starting in spring semester instead of fall? (Brandeis)

On commonapp for Brandeis, one of the questions is “First-year, Regular Decision candidates are admitted for either Fall semester starting in August or Spring semester starting in January. We are unable to guarantee your first choice, but please indicate your preference.” Naturally, I’d prefer to start in the fall with everyone else. Brandeis is a reach for me though, so I’m wondering if choosing the “either fall or spring” option would increase my chances of getting in. Has anyone had any experience with starting a semester late (to any college)? It really doesn’t sound appealing to me… I think it would throw me off quite a bit. But I really like Brandeis so I’m not sure. Thanks!

Offering delayed admission in January is common at many schools. Choosing either/or will be to your advantage if you consider Brandeis a reach.

Ok, thank you. Do you know if there are any programs that students can do during the fall semester through Brandeis, or is it basically just do whatever you want to (travel, work, etc.)?
