Hi everyone!
I am thinking of starting JETS at my school. For those who don't know about this club - it is an engineering club that allows students to compete with each other in engineering situations - there are different competitions. Since this is the first year, I am thinking of taking it slow and easy by spending the first semester preparing for the TEAMS competition in february - march, fundraising, volunteering and publicizing the club around the school. Is this a good plan? Why or why not?
Some more questions:

I need to find a coach/sponser, I was thinking of my AP CompSci teacher, would that be a good choice? What other subject teachers should I ask?

I noticed that not all schools compete at a competition site - they can choose a "JETS: Remote Site." There wasn't much info on the website about this, so what exactly is this and how does this work?

Should I ask the coach/sponser to send invitation letters to students he/she thinks would be ideal for JETS or should I just let be that anyone can join?
Oh also, my school has many potential engineers or students who are very good at math and science.

Also, at the first meeting, I am thinking of putting together groups of 4-8 (depending on the amount of people that join) and voting each team's captain. Then - choosing the President, VP, Treasurer, and Historian.
Here is each position's descrpition:
President - arranges all the meetings, sends e-mails to all members to keep them updated and maintains website, anything else I am missing?
VP - takes place of president when he/she is missing, notes down meeting times and agenda, then takes notes on important things at each meeting to e-mail them to kids who have missed the meetings, anything else I am missing?
Treasurer - incharge of fundraisers, bank account and responsible of collecting club dues from members, anything else I am missing?
Historian - takes pictures of events, volunteer activities, fundraisers and puts them on website and also gives them to yearbook and newspaper, anything else I am missing?
Team Captain - should be voted on by the team, comes to monthly meetings with the officers and sponsor/coach and is makes sure that his/her team is prepared for TEAMS competition by distributing the prep material, etc...

Please gives any other suggestions.
Thanks so much.
Extremely sorry for the long post.
