Starting to become a little bit skeptical about RPI?

I am 90 percent sure I will be attending RPI and was confident about this at first. After hearing so many mixed reviews about RPI, I am lead to this one conclusion: in order to enjoy RPI, one most be “nerdy” or “geeky.” I guess I just want to hear it from someone that attends the school. Is this really the case? Is it really as depressing a school as some make it out to be?

@bobmcbob‌ Hi! I’m probably going to be attending RPI too next year. My brother graduated from there 2 years ago, and he is anything but nerdy. He is smart, but likes to spend most of his time outdoors either skiing, running, hiking, or biking. He found that there were a lot of nerdy people at RPI that he did not like hanging out with at all, but there were also people like him who were into other things besides computers and video games. He joined the bike team and the ski team, and met some great people that way. So yes, there are nerdy people at RPI, but there are also normal people there too and if you sign up for some clubs or teams, they should be pretty easy to find!

There are many kinds of people at RPI. Yes there are plenty of nerds/geeky people, but as already mentioned, there are lots of people who like to work out and enjoy the outdoors and physical activity. There are plenty of clubs, and there is an all girls college in Troy also.

Don’t put too much stock into negative reviews regardless of the school being reviewed. Go with your gut but say “duly noted” on the negative stuff. The vast majority of RPI students have a good college experience and there are some clear advantages to having a RPI degree. But if you want to go to a big university or a school you feel is a better fit for you, go there instead. I suspect that those with negative reviews failed to follow this basic principle in most cases.
