Starting to compile list of schools

My D1 is off to college in the fall and I’m starting the process with D2 who is finishing her sophomore year. We want to start touring this summer so are starting to create a list.

I’m going to estimate her stats. I know they won’t be exact but I’m just looking for schools in this range. Let’s assume she has a 3.75UW, 5-6 AP’s (English, history, Spanish) and a 30 ACT. Decent EC’s but nothing spectacular. URM but high income.

Right now she’s interested in English, creative writing or media studies.

D1 is going go a small LAC. D2 says no way could she go to such a small school but doesn’t want huge either. Not interested in UC’s but we will tour a few.

Here’s her wish list- small, discussion based classes, social justice is important to her, lots of school spirit-not necessarily top sports teams but one where students enjoy cheering on their school.

So far she is interested in UWashington (prob too large but she heard they have strong writing program), chapman, Syracuse, Tulane, BU.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you looked at Brandeis? Class sizes are good, social justice is pretty big on campus, it’s pretty medium-sized (and not far from Boston)…I don’t know about school spirit, since I’m not a student, but it could be an option.

For her potential academic interests, these articles will help her generate ideas:

“The 10 Best Colleges for Writers,” USA Today

“The 10 Best Colleges for Creative Writers,” The Freelancer

“The 12 Best Creative Writing Colleges and Programs,” PrepScholar

“The 25 Most Literary Colleges in America,” Flavowire

We toured Brandeis a couple of years ago with her sister. She doesn’t remember much about it but we’ll revisit it. Brandeis was one of D1’s top choices but she ended up applying ED to another school. Thanks.
