I'm thinking of doing Stat 134: Probability in the fall. There are 3 professors (Purves, Klass and Bhatnagar) teaching the class next sem, so I was wondering which prof would be the best to take it with? Anyone have any feedback about these 3 profs?

I usually find it best to study from the textbook so which prof should I be looking at? Or is it not feasible to just study from the textbook for this class? I'm also hoping to get a good grade (i.e. an A) in this class but I'm already going to take Math 53 and 54 at the same time so a Prof that gives relatively easy As would be nice.

i am taking stat 134 this semester with prof. klass. he is a nice person and willing to help, but cannot teach and write. midterm is easy, with 40 points xcredit. he goes over hwk during class time, and does not teach the subject most of the time. so plann study on your own. btw, the text sucks and expensive!

This is a very tough class, only take it if you need to.

@eL-shijunzi: Thanks for the info! Do you know what the grade distribution for Prof Klass is like?

@anon5524485: Can you please elaborate in what ways is it tough? Is the material really conceptual, or is it like calculus where lots of practice helps?

EDIT: I’ve noticed that official University data on CourseRank shows that Prof Klass gives about 41%As; that seems pretty generous.

yeah take it with Klass, he gives the most A’s out of the three

according to our midterm grades, there’s like 40%-45% As. but you have to study on yourself A LOT!

If you can wait for Adhikari or Ibser that might be a good idea. I hear Ibser is supposed to be the best combination of generous grading and good teaching. Adhikari is pretty tough.

Yu is teaching stats 134 in the summer. Does anyone recommend taking it then? Is Yu a good instructor? Thanks.

the spring 2011 instructors are the same as the fall 2010 except Bhatnagar (for stat 134). i guess if you wait for Adhikari or Ibser, thenyou have to wait til next year to take 134.
