State flagship schools that offer out of state tuition waived for veteran dependent

I confirmed that Mississippi state will waive out of state tuition for a dependent of a veteran. My husband served 5 years and has an honorable discharge. Is anyone aware of any other state flagship schools that offer that?

Not a flagship, but Rowan in NJ offers it. You have to apply and supply some information, but it’s all outlined on their website.

Would the student qualify as a “covered individual” as described at https://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill/post911_residentraterequirements.asp ?

University of Florida offers in state tuition to students using the post 9/11 GI Bill. My husband transferred his to our daughter and she is using it at UF and gets instate tuition, which at under $7000/year is an incredible bargain.

No. My husband used his GI bill to go college after he served in the Army. So my daughter won’t be using the benefits. But it sure is a great perk if a college offers in state tuition for veteran dependents.

Are you sure that it was for a dependent of a veteran and not for an active duty dependent? I’ve heard of schools waiving out of state tuition to those students whose parents are still on active duty and, thus, may be living in a state that the family doesn’t consider “home.” I’ve never heard of a school waiving out of state tuition for a dependent of any veteran.

Yes. Definitely at Mississippi State for a dependent of a veteran. Confined by email.

I think Iowa State has some in-state tuition programs for kids of veterans, but I know there’s rules attached.

Ole Miss. In state rate for dependents even if they run out of GI Bill Benefits. Their website states you have to start with some benefits. Anecdotally, a friend had a son start with one month of benefits remaining. He got in state tuition rate all four years.
