Can anyone familiar with the process of applying for State Grants, particularly PA, explain? thanks !

Most state grants are applied for through the traditional FA process: FAFSA and Profile.

thanks, so that means as long as the FAFSA and CSS are filed, applicants don't have to do anything else?

right........?

I'm going to say yes to that. I'm like 90% sure.

Not sure about PA, but in CT, my sons had to fill out a short form and submit it through their GC. Also had to be in a certain top percentage (can't remember exact number) of class OR 1200+ on old SAT. After that, it goes by the FAFSA. My son just got a letter last week stating that he's eligible to be considered again (got a state grant last year), but if his FAFSA EFC is over $12,000 he'll be ineligible. Again, this is CT, PA could be different. Check with your GC.

thanks for the replies, i checked with two of my GCs and both said the FAFSA is all that is needed for PA

In PA FAFSA is all you need - PHEAA will let you know if you quality for the state grant.

Also keep in mind that receiving a state grant may or may not do you any good, depending on how the school treats it. One of my sons goes to Lehigh in PA (hi, laxmom!), they took his CT state grant off of the Lehigh grant, so it didn't reduce what he/we had to pay. But it was a good finaid package overall, so I'm not too upset.
