Just a quick question here
Will it be better if I applied to transfer from a state school like Montclair or from my local community college? Thanks a lot guys
What school - or what kind of school - are you transferring to?
Some states have agreements between community college and state u’s that give guaranteed admission if you graduate w associates and a certain GPA. The caveat I’d add is to make sure the CC courses really prepare you for the upper level classes you will be taking at the next school…more a potential issue in science and math than other areas.
I live in Nj and I have the typical unrealistic dream of transferring to an Ivy
I am also gonna major in English and education to be an English teacher
The kids that transfer into Ivies are the ones that had a reasonable chance out of high school. That’s why so many of them come from very selective colleges. When you read a news story about a kid that transferred from a community college, which is somewhat rare, it’s usually a pretty remarkable kid that attended a CC due to family circumstances.
So if you’re not a realistic candidate for an Ivy right now this is a moot question.
Posts like this come up regularly, they almost seem diagnostic for a certain mindset. And they make great examples of what is called the confirmation bias. People will read dozens and dozens of stories about the difficulty of a path like this, but they’ll find one encouraging story (that they have no way of knowing is actually true) and quickly dismiss all of others.
