I have a question about writing my statement of purpose. I had a bad first undergrad semester (2.2 gpa) but had a 3.3 or so the rest of college. I've read that it's best to explain poor grades in the statement, but I don't really have a good reason. The transition from high school to college was a bit difficult, but this seems more like an excuse than a reason or an explanation. In this case, is it best to just not explain it at all? Or should I just include a 1-2 sentence explanation in the statement or in an addendum? Thanks.

don’t bother explaining if you don’t have a good reason.

Let it go. People understand that first year is rough on a lot of people.
