everyone says to take stat 60 in the winter. is it true that it is ONLY the winter quarter where there is no midterm/final?

is it easy other quarters as well? are there midterms/finals?

I hear it is relatively easy all quarters, but best in the winter. And I know there was a final this fall, because one of my dormmates had it.

I and about 5 others in my dorm are taking the class this coming quarter... wooo!

I think I'll be taking it too! I dread 9 AM classes though.

Indeed... I've heard that you really don't need to go to the lectures because nothing new and exciting or important is said... but I'm paranoid and will probably go to nearly all of them anyways. At least I won't feel so bad if I decide to sleep in sometimes ;)

So, it's definitely true, winter is the best time to take Stats 60, hands down. There are no midterms and there is no final. The catch? There's a quiz at 9 AM every Tuesday.

My opinion (took it last year winter quarter):
Lecture: completely unneccesary for success in the class (it's 9 in the freaking morning, for crying out loud, only go on Tuesdays when you have to)

Section: go to section religiously. Ask around, and find the best TA, and take good notes. Why? Because the quizzes are open note and open book (don't buy the book, though, because it's a serious waste of money and you don't need it)

Difficulty: if you go to section, they will solve for you just about every type of problem that's going to be on the quiz. It's ridiculously easy if you put some effort whatsoever.

jwj... I think I know who you are. I live on the floor below you =]

Thanks for the tips on going to section! I'll definitely do that. And seriously, don't get the book? Did ANYONE use it? I ask because I know you're smarter than I am ;) so maybe I need it.

Seriously, no one used it. At least, no one that I know who's taken it winter quarter. Just go to section. If you like, I was anal and bought it and then stupidly forgot to return it before the bookstore's deadline, so you can use it if you like (assuming the textbook hasn't changed for the course).
