..wow guys. Looking at your stats makes me wonder why I even bothered to apply. Guess my rejection letter is coming to me soon... wow.

"Also applying to : Harvard,Yale,Princeton,MIT,Columbia,UC Berkeley, UCLA"

im not exactly sure, and dont take my word for it, but that might be why you got deferred. the counselors at my school gave us all a warning not to apply to all the ivys, but just the one or two that we were sure that we wanted to go to.... apparently the top schools are able to talk amongst themselves to see whos applying to where, and may be base their decisions off of that.

the_leaf: But for Stanford SCEA? I mean, I could maybe believe it for RD, but that doesn't seem to make much sense to me. I mean, what kid wouldn't want backups?

I really, really doubt it......

No, how would anyone know if he was applying RD to Harvard? I mean, he probably hasn't applied yet. I think that's nuts.

It's a conspiracy!!! They're out to get us!

were you rejected or deferred?

Dear all of you,
i got rejected yesterday. and believe me, all of you have stats much higher than mine. the only thing i had going for me was my extraordinary life experiences and a good gpa. i seriously hope you all get in. my rejection letter said they accepted less than 900 kids under EA this year. so, good luck to all. and hope that i get into gtown, michigan or tulane.

deferred too (but it equals rejection in my case cuz i've got that legacy thingy), don't take it too badly ppl, obviously there's better schools out there that want you.

GPA: 4.0 UW
Rank: N/A
SAT: 730V 800M
SAT II: 800 W, 800 Bio, 750 IIC
EC's: kinda suck
recs: dunno
essays: okayish

have you guys read voltaire's candide? sure, pure optimism is kinda retarded, but it works in this case. for instance, trumpet call if i hadn't got my deferral letter today, what else would i have used as a mat to set my pot of ramen noodles on? (yes, i know, i'm quite resourceful). or 5 years from now when you're totally rich and famous and donate millions to your alma mater (Harvard, Yale, Pton, etc.) and stanford is running low on money because all its star athletes have been injured, who's face are you gonna be able to rub it in? see, everything happens for a reason. all of you are so smart and you're totally gonna kick butt wherever you go and become wildly successful. keep good thoughts in your mind (remember Candide!), and you'll conquer the world. or maybe not, because i will. :P

I am another poor deferred student. If anyone is curious these are my stats:
SAT- 1530
SAT IIs- will find out on friday
APs- 2 5s and 3 4s (one 6 in IB Spanish)
GPA- 4.00 unweighted, 5.083 weighted
Class Rank- 3 of 505
Awards/special recognition, etc.: President of Spanish Honor Society, National Merit Semifinalist, Chief marshall of graduation, 10 years in martial arts (1st degree black belt), 2nd principal violinist at school, attended medical program in Boston, yearly volunteer work at hospital, other various trivial things (NHS, Advanced Spanish Club, Math, Spanish and Science honor societies, etc.)
I don't think my essays were too great, but then again, I probably shouldn't expect much when I decide to write them all in 2 days. Not something I'm proud of guys. As for recommendations, one was most likely very good, the other average, because I was banking on asking my spanish teacher, of whom I was the proclaimed favorite student, but she left at the end of the year, as did 2 of my other core teachers, so I got desperate. Anyway, I'm not complaining. Although my chances aren't great, I'll work my butt off and hopefully something will work out. If not, I'm banking on Duke as a good backup (hopefully, I'll at least get in there). Oh, and by the way, I am from North Carolina in case that means anything.

Pure stats aren't very meaningful. Instead of posting GPA/scores/etc. , can you guys describe how you presented yourself in the app? Your overall image/hook?

ie) "I'm the all-state athelete who works at the soup kitchen" or "the uber-genius who won Siemens + Intel 3 years in a row" or "toured the U.S. during summer and published a book on my travel experiences."

In that case, I suppose I was the perfectionist family guy and sports enthusiast, with a strong dedication to the field of medicine.

Oh right, Major would be nice too - maybe even ethnicity, but I doubt that'll give much useful info.

I am a first generation Persian/Iranian. I don't know the major I intend to have. Probably scientifically or mathematically based. My main goal is medical school. Really, I'm not that concerned with what I choose to study as an undergraduate.
