Hi,

I am a Canadian student at Vassar College. I am in second year and am considering transferring to UBC for third year for many reasons, one of which being that my tuition is going to keep increasing over the next two years and it is starting to be a bit excessive. I also find many aspects of Vassar stifling, even though it definitely has its positives such as small classes and easy communication with professors. I would also like to go to Medical school, probably in Canada, after I graduate. So my question is, do you think it would be a better idea to transfer to UBC or stay at Vassar and graduate with a potentially more prestigious degree?

I suggest you ask on the PreMed Topics forum, this type of question comes up often and there are many experienced posters there. Some points that are usually discussed:

There’s not going to be a difference in the prestige between UBC and Vassar for med school admissions. There are only a small handful of colleges that will give you a prestige bump and these are not included. For the rest, a high gpa is what’s important, wherever you get it.

The negative of transferring is having to start up new with relationships with profs, EC, research, etc. at your new school.

It’s good to get through UG as cheaply as possible, because Med school is big time expensive.
