Hello!! I’m currently a first year transfer who is planning to stay a third year and graduate 2022 instead of 2021. Long story short, I did community college in one year which is why I’m graduating a year ahead of my age group. But I never really wanted to graduate that early nor do I feel prepared at all to do so, so I really want to stay a third year to have a normal college experience. While I originally was planning to slip through the system’s cracks by changing my graduation date to 2022 and then just keep taking classes while making sure I stay under 216 units (max units allowed), I still wanted to double check with a counselor because of how risky it was. But after talking to her, she said she was going to have to put me on enrollment lock after fall 2022 enrollment (all transfers get one guaranteed extra quarter). Is this a new thing? Because other 3rd years I’ve talked to never was told they would have an enrollment hold. I’m trying to bypass that right now by telling her I no longer want to stay a third year. But it is now very likely that I have to petition instead of trying to sneakily take classes. I was wondering if there were any other transfers that have some advice on how to successfully petition and what the overall likelihood that my petition will get accepted. Some of my reasons that for staying will include: being a one year transfer who feels like they need more time at UCLA, taking on a minor, only being able to take 3 classes each quarter because of other extracurricular commitments, not being able to take summer session to finish my classes because of internships, and COVID-19 of course taking away a lot of experiences that I’m missing out by not being on campus. Any advice would be great!!
