Staying longer than 2 years?

As a transfer aiming for double major, I am going to require two additional quarters to finish my majors beyond the first two years.

Are there any restrictions on how long you can stay?

No, some people stay for 6 years apparently (including freshman and sophomore year)

You are not permitted to stay extra time in order to have a double major if you’re going over the unit cap.

Anyone know definitively whether you can go over the unit cap and stay longer or not?

I have been only getting conflicting answers regarding this.

After talking to a virtual counselor and consulting the [UCLA College Blue Petition](http://collegecounseling.ucla.edu/blue.html) page, it appears you can attempt to petition for BOTH unit cap and duration of stay.

It is under Maximum Units section where it says “If you will be going into your 5th year, or 3rd year for transfer students, you will need to explain why you need additional units. Your explanation should include your academic reasoning for additional time and units.”

In conclusion, yes you can go over BOTH unit cap and duration, long as you petition and get approved.
