STEP program

Does anyone know what their program is like? I’m an incoming freshman and would like to know what I should take/ how to get ready for it.

The STEP program is pretty awesome. Honestly, you don’t really have to prepare for it. Bring lots of thin clothing & shorts. Some of the people you will meet there may become your friend for life/for the rest of your time at Davis (your PACs will tell you this). I was part of STEP 2012. Read the book that they provide, you will be doing a mini project on it. I met some people who didnt read it, and some who read it last minute, but i guarantee you that the book is really, really good & it wont be a waste of your time. The first week will be tiring because it’s orientation week - you’ll end up walking alot in the hot sun. You may not get the classes you want during pass 1 b/c STEP students registers last, so try to get them during pass 2. Be prepared to meet really nice, cool people. The dorms you get to stay in are pretty new. After the 1st week, they give you a schedule of your classes for the rest of STEP to give you a feel of how your academic year will be like. At the end, there’s a STEP dance, so you can bring some sort of formal wear for that.

I will also be doing the step program in august.

How much free time is there or any at all? Meaning could we go to the gym in the morning or walk around the campus?

Does everyone in the program live in one housing place?

How good was the dance?

I’m also doing the STEP program and I wanted to know when we do the STEP program are we supposed to bring all our belongings for when we stay in the dorm because I live in LA and the week between moving into dorms and the ending of the STEP program leaves me confused. Am I supposed to just pack for a month and then come back down to LA during that week and then go back to Davis when it’s time to move in housing?

After the 1st week, you’ll have free time, but during the 1st week, you’ll have a set schedule, so you might get really tired, but just hang in there. After the 1st week, it’s manageable. I had lots of free time, because i didn’t study. The classes you take during STEP will not count towards your GPA, so students tend to procrastinate and do their work last minute. Yes, you will get class work. All your instructors are REALLY, REALLY nice people. If you can, please DO join BUSP/MURPS/MURALS, it’ll really help & it’s super fun. I didn’t join, but i really regret it. You’ll learn about BUSP/MURPS/MURALS later.

Everyone in the program lived in the new buildings in Segundo (Alder & Tompson hall). 2 ppl per triple. I didn’t attend the dance, but i heard there was lots of candy, i would attend if i were you. You dont have to (:

STEP will have take STEPpers on a tour, i don’t remember if we had time to go to the gym. Don’t bring all your belongings, just bring what you will need for the summer. Because after STEP, you’ll be kicked out & you’ll have to go home. Last year, my floor-mates (STEP floor-mates) rented a storage to put the stuff they didn’t want to take back to LA. Just wondering our of curiosity, did you guys have to pay for STEP this year?

yes we did have to pay but some of us with EOP got a reduced priced
