I’ve heard that American is known to have a very large gay male population, which in itself is no issue. However, coupled with American’s already high proprtion of females, that leaves a concerningly small amount of straight guys for straight girls. Also, during the admitted students overnight, I noted a definite nerdy, antisocial vibe amongst the students there. Everyone was super nice and friendly, but not necessarily someone I would picture attending a frat party or going to a bar. Frankly students just seemed somewhat odd. However, my high school has a remarkable lack in diversity, in race, sexuality, and personality (it is essentially full of white, straight, and extremely basic girls). I want diversity in a college, but I also want to go out with friends and date and I worry that American’s student body does not consist of people who would satisfy those criteria. I’m not a huge partyer and I’m not looking to be with a guy every weekend. I just want the ability to do so if I choose.
AU has a large gay population but the straight population is still higher. AU just has a highly visible gay population that would make you think otherwise especially if you come from an area with a low amount of gays. On the topic of anti-social students, I’m going to be honest and that is because you were hosted or hung out with people that are friends with people associated with the admission departments. While there is nothing wrong with these people, they are more likely to be the frat types.
There is definitely a frat presence on this campus although it is nothing like big state schools. If you want to party or date, you definitely will have that ability. Not to mention you are located in a metro area with over a six million people and hundreds of thousands of college students.
