Hi
I plan on applying ED 1 to NYU Stern, as I plan on majoring in Finance.
I talked to someone who got in through ED1, and he said the way it works is that first they decide whether or not you get into NYU, then they evaluate you for Stern.
What I am concerned with is, if I don’t get into Stern but I get into NYU, can they put me in the school of arts and sciences? I am purely applying to NYU for Stern – I have no intention for going to the arts and sciences school. Can NYU do this?

tldr; If I apply ED1 to NYU for Stern, can they accept me, but into A&S and not stern?

If you place down CAS as a second choice, they will consider you for a spot. However, only your first choice is binding. If you place CAS as your second choice, you will not be forced to attend if you are rejected from Stern.
It’s also worth noting that you must apply to every school separately; there’s not one single admissions office that determines your acceptance, so you will not be accepted to two schools at the same time. Rather, if you are rejected from your first choice, only then would they consider you for your second. Good luck!
