Can anyone tell me how many people are accepted as Stern Scholars and what the perks are?

perks are that you have to go to a meeting every thursday, so you'll never get to come to EEG :( club of the year!

as far as recruiting and prestige...do recruiters look to the stern scholars first and does the program have a good reputation

It helps to be in Scholars, since that means you're supposed to be the top of the class (academically, at least, this is probably true!) I don't know if it'd be a dealmaker.

Incoming Scholars will get to take special sections of some of the core classes, go on a domestic trip freshman year and a Europe trip sophomore year (you'll pay a couple hundred and the rest - flight, hotel, tours - are paid by NYU), and spend a semester at NYU London/Florence/Shanghai junior year (there is talk of a stipend to help defray costs). Speakers come in to talk to the Scholars too, though whether that's a PERK is questionable at times.

how do you know you got in??

I received a letter in the mail around the 15th congratulating me and saying that I was a Stern Scholar.

ThatKid, did u apply ED or regular?

will it help if i sent a copy of my most recent transcript, which shows that i jumped 6 spots in rank and now i'm 11 out 500? or does nyu actullly not care about this?

i applied regular

does anyone know how many people are selected to be stern scholars

la creme de la creme!! how's that for an answer?! :-P i'm jk! the number is very small, but i still don't know how many are admitted to the program.

Balling!!!!

i think its top 15%

top 15%?! that's not that bad!!! 15% of 500 is .... 75 ppl. not that bad. but are all these ppl eligible for scholarships? probably, not, right?

no not top 15% from your high school. The top 15% of the accepted NYU stern kids are scholars.

i know. i got that; i'm not that retarded.:P but aren't there 500 students accepted at stern every year?? i might be wrong, but i thought there were only 500 out of 6000. are there 2000+, then?

Consideration for scholarships is a different process from Scholars. Obviously, since Scholars are the top students of the incoming class, they're probably more likely to be considered for scholarships, but it's not BECAUSE they're Scholars.

oh, ok! thank you! :)

sorry kullucka...in the post you made before you said your HS rank was out of 500 so I thought thats what you were talking about.

I think the stern scholars gives scholarships mainly on financial need too so yeah. NYU is well known for not giving out a lot of aid....I don't think it even guarantees to meet your EFC.

oh, that's ok tctennis! actually, I should be sorry for being so confusing. thanks for your response, though. :)
