Stern Student with Biology (and Lab)

Hey, Folks,

I am wondering if it is managerable of the workload as a Stern freshman with studying Biology (+ Lab) in CAS. I heard that Stern is very demanded. I don't want to get bad GPA. But all my high school is focused on the courses of science career and I don't want to throw them away right now.

Stern is hard but so are any schools serious with academics. The same goes for double majoring. However, is it really true that they are demanding? I can tell you it is a myth. It is true that some students cannot take the workload but it is also true that some students can take as much workload as possible.

In my opinion, it is all about time management and your level of interest. I take the maximum of credits at my current school and have no problems with the workload. If you manage time well, you would have. In generally, students who cannot take demanding workload tend to have poor time management, such as leaving too much time for socializing or cramming too much on the same day. Your choice of courses also depend on this, especially if you cram several classes in one day. Second, if you are really interested in biology you will like doing the work and will not have trouble doing it. After all, a person who hates biology will try to procrastinate as much as possible to avoid doing the dread biological studies which he/she prefers doing over other things.

The following is what I recommend based on how I manage my time.
Create a schedule between your academics and socializing (includes other things you may enjoy doing). You can do it on Microsoft Excel, Google Calendar, or any program you wish. Follow it strictly as possible. Also, leave time in your schedule for unexpected events and assignments.
