Has anyone participated in the accelerated masters program at Steven’s? Is it possible to apply for the program or does the admissions office decide who to offer it to? How was the course load? Also, were you eligible to participate in other things like a double major, a minor, or an internship?
I am answering because this forum is so slow-moving. Hope you will get more responses, but…
My son is finishing his 5 year Masters program this year. I think admissions offers it to incoming freshmen only: you cannot apply. The course load is tough but manageable. Typical credits were 18-20 per semester. You can get some relief by taking summer courses, which should be free (within parameters) for those who are in an applicable program (for ex Neupauer or Pinnacle Scholars).
You could definitely do a minor, or an internship, or even co-op. For co-op, 3 semesters are required. You could do 4 or 5 co-op semesters, but then you are pushing yourself into 6 year graduation territory. Same thing with a double major: you are allowed, and some people do it in 5 years, but it also might push you into a 6th year.
Overall, it really depends on the student. Some students will do 5 year Masters, co-op, and double major, but they will most likely be overloading credits every semester (think 21-24 credits). The good part is, you can decide what you can handle, and tailor your program to suit your style.
