@ProudPapa2000: Your original post in this thread is among the best that I have ever read on this website. It asks whether the Stevens Institute of TECHNOLOGY admissions decisions will be released via snail mail or email. Thank you for making me smile.
Congrats everybody!
My son was accepted in ED1 with merit scholarship 9K.
His major is Mechanical Engineering.
Anybody is from So. California?, L.A.!!
See you everybody in “Accepted Student Day” Apr. 14th or 15th.
@grom125 , since you are planning to attend “Accepted Student Day”, I assume you are actually considering Stevens. As a California resident, how did you find out about Stevens and what is its reputation there? I am just trying to find out how good/bad stevens actually is cause I live in NJ and have never heard of it before until this year. Thanks
My older D is a 3rd year ME focused on medical devices, is a Presidential scholar and was in the Pinnacle program as a Freshman, and second D - is accepted to the QF program with a Presidential scholarship as well. Wife and I sit on the Stevens Parents Council, and will be staffing a table at Accepted Students day likely on Sunday April 15th. We cannot say enough great things about the school, professors and leadership team there; the education our daughter is getting & opportunities she has had open doors to (published research as a freshman, 2 outstanding CO-OP jobs, and multiple offers her third coop, and already has offers upon graduation to her prior coop employers) , and the trajectory of where the school is going. Not the school for everyone, but Engineers are highly sought after in the market, and wall street scoops up every QF grad that gets through that tough program (at $100K + starting).
Stevens is really under-rated school. In So. Calif. probably not many students knows Stevens!
I researched schools of Engineering include of RPI, RIT, WPI, other big Univ. of Engineering Dept., and visited 10 schools.
Size of school is good for my son, of course, location.
Any school has some good and bad reputations depends on how students feel about school!
I think Stevens has a great Coop Program which can not be forget!
My son did not like RPI, WPI, RIT for location even he can go.
We did not choose big private school of Engineering since we will pay big buck, I don’t want him to go school like Public School.
In West Coast, we have Cal-Tech, Stanford which are very tough, and most of private Engineering schools are in East Coast.
We are happy to know Stevens!
Could you say more about the QF program? My son has been accepted - he’s very smart, but rather lazy! Frankly, the concern is that he won’t make it through in 4 years or drop out. They’ve offered him a good scholarship, but he needs to maintain a 3.2 GPA and it’s for 4 years. Do you know how many drop out or lose their scholarships or take longer than 4 years to graduate? Any information would be really helpful - thanks!
@hedgehogcake Given my current student there is an engineering major so this may not be fully on point for QF - but she also needs to maintain a 3.2 for her Merit on a challenging engineering schedule and has done so while also doing coop, being president of sorority, etc. A friend’s Son is there as a sophomore and his parents had your same concern on maintaining the grade to keep the $ - he switched from CS to QF and is doing fine. I think you need to consider the “Q” is Quantitative so heavy math and the skills to be able to handle that is important success.
