pros:
In state
More prestigious (slightly)
Parents want me to go there
Nearly half the price
great weather, places to go other than college

cons:
ugly girls!!!
Not as good of a party scene as Umich
Extremeley competitive. While I am certain I could do well at Berkeley, I know that it is a much harder school to get into than umich( almost all of my friends who are ranked in the top 10 percent of a competitive public high got into mich out of state and didnt get into berkeley in state) and thus it would be much harder to pull a good gpa and thus hurting my chances at a top grad school..
Only 10 percent out of state

Mich

Pros

Great programs comparable to Berkeley
Girls
party scene
It would be much easier to graduate with honors/ top end of my class
40 percent? out of state, much more diverse

Cons

Price
weather
Less to do outside the school
mental factor of "choosing the easier way out" ( which I know shouldnt be a reason.

I know what you are all going to say, just visit the campus's and see which one you fit in better. I am definately going to do this. However, at this point im m 85 percent ( in state tuition fees) going to Berkeley, and was wondering if any of you guys could change my mind.

I know i may sound shallow, but i feel like my mind belongs at Berkeley but my dick belongs at Mich. I value both the same.

.. and I almost forgot about Tufts, NYU, SB AND SD Regent scholarship, and waitlist at georgetown. But I heard NYU is a bad school for undecided majors, and tufts is depressing and too small. But if you guys have input for these schools it would also be highly appreciated.

yah dood, going somewhere because you don't think there's a good party scene is effing foolish kid.
you can make your own party scene, it ain't that hard, and there's plenty of gorgeous women here if you want them. I party every weekend, and have the ability to get super trashed every weekend if i wanted too. If you're so whiney about Cal not being an ASU or something go away.

Visit both places, see what you dig and go there, soak in the vibes

Go where you want. College isn't all about a degree. What most people fail to realize is that successful people will do well no matter where they go to college. This concept that if you go to a great college you will have a guaranteed "in" is BS. Go where you will be happy!! If you like to party and can do it while keeping good grades then it doesn't really matter where you go. You can deff make your own party scene at Berk, but Michigan will probably have much more of a social atmosphere. Personally, if $ wasn't an issue, I'd take Mich. Comparable schools, comparable options, slightly better alumni network at mich, and I love college sports so mich would be a no-brainer :). But...if price is an issue, take Berkeley. Bachelor degrees mean less and less these days, and if you have any intent on going to graduate school I'd save up your $$$ for that :).

dude i feel ya. i got into berk n mich to but im outta state for both. i think ima end up at berkeley tho man. dont worry well create our own party scene.

I realize that I sounded a little harsh when comparing the party scenes. Of course Berkeley will have a party scene due to its large size. The forum post may have portrayed me as a bit of a low life; however, I need to consider all possible negative attributes about a school before I attend. This forum is tough to get anyone's attention on, and I simply posted a slightly exaggerated version of what I am feeling inside based on impressions made by others at the two schools.

As for the girls, I am sorry if I offended anyone. I am sure there are plenty of beautiful girls at Berkeley. I am simply worried about recent posts concerning "Berkeley Goggles" and "The Berkeley Ranking System." The posts are most likely hyperbole, but I will see for myself on CalDay.

The most important attribute I am looking for in a college is a place where my creativity will be nurtured and I will be inspired. I feel all the colleges that I am considering can offer me this so I didn't feel it necessary to post.
