Still waiting for financial aid

My USC EFC was only 1k higher than my FAFSA EFC. USC gave me the best financial aid (and it's my number 1 choice of all my acceptances), so california here i come!

The FAFSA EFC was 6018.

Financial Aid Eligibility - Not Completed
Application for Financial Aid - Monitor your status at My Financial Aid and My Documents.

Uh... i hope they would hurry up

Cipher3D, why don't you take out a student loan? That's what I'm doing, and you won't have to payit back until you are out of college. 44k of debt wouldnt be that bad...

uyulove,
I also have that
"Financial Aid Eligibility - Not Completed
Application for Financial Aid - Monitor your status at My Financial Aid and My Documents." even though I have already sent in everything they asked for.
Btw, did collegeboard call you guys to send in a copy of parents' driver license and SSN so that they can start the process for parent plus loans? I am beginning to wonder if that had anything to do w/ my not getting the financial aid from USC yet.

Momofchris ~ Not at all. Your son is getting a Dean's scholarship more than my son...count your blessings. I send this to you from my house, which around here has the distinction of being known as a "tear down." That means when we leave a developer will buy it, tear it down, and build a McMansion of some kind on the lot...

reasonabledad, I've got you beat - my house is so small with such a small lot in a neighborhood that people don't want that it will never make it to "tear down" status!

LOL, MOC! You may have me beat at that. I like to mention to passers-by that my house is not the tool shed for the mansion up the road; we live there.

But congratulations to your son for the Dean's scholarship. It really is an achievement of note, and both of you should be pleased that USC wants your son to matriculate there. USC is a great university.

Reasonabledad, I agree that USC is a great school. I just need to justify that it costs 3 times what Purdue does! My son is only a junior in high school and applied to USC because he heard about their resident honors program. (This program lets students skip their senior year.) As a backup, I had him apply at Purdue. In a way, I wish he would wait a year and apply at more schools to have a bigger choice, but he is way too bored with high school.

vagan- No collegeboard didn't call for that... that's kinda weird. I don't that's the reason USC's not done with our fin aid yet.

heh. 44k right out of college would be pretty hard on me. I wouldn't want to be stuck paying off college for a large portion of my life. And I'm planning to go to graduate school, too, so there's that :-. Sigh.

uyulove, I don't think 44k would take you "a large portion of your life" to payoff.

After all, I'll be taking on a similar debt and I plan on applying for extra scholarships and grants. With work and scholarships, you could cut that number in half. easily.

cipher3d, I notice you live in Irvine. Could you live at home and commute? If you do live on campus, the travel expense for you will be significantly less than someone that has to fly to go home, so adjust the usc cost of attendance by that much.

oops, sorry uyulove, my last post was for Cipher3D

Gah! Why is financial aid taking so long! :(

don't freak. mine took over a month, so it'll come : )
(i received acceptance in the beginning of february)

I recieved acceptance in the beginning of February, too! It's been almost 2 months! :(

maybe they're still considering you for scholarships?

Hopefully they are. I want at least the ghost scholarship, but since I'll probably get need-based aid, it probably won't matter.

I got my acceptance in the beginning of March (March 2) and I just received a letter in the mail today notifying me I got the Associates scholarship, worth $10,000 per year, so For5aken, I think you're probably going to get some form of scholarship. =)
