University Grant $29,582
Federal Perkins Loan $2,380
Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan $2,625
Federal Work-Study $2,500

Total: $37,087
Estimated Cost of Attendance: $44,722

My EFC is $3k, so this is not bad, only $4k more than my family can pay. Just need another loan and more work for me. anyway, this is the most generous of all my fin aids. HAPPY.

Estimated Cal Grant A 8,322
Federal Work-Study 2,500
Federal Perkins Loan 1,380
Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan 2,625
University Grant 23,695

Did everyone get their fin aid package yet? I still haven't received mine.

OASIS:

and on the Information Gateway thing, this is what it said:

Required (documents and information you need to submit) - None
Pending (documents and information you have submitted which we have not yet reviewed) - None

I had Deans Scholarship before, and then I got a letter in the mail recently telling me I got the Presidential Scholarship. But guess what? My total financial aid package is the EXACT same. What is this? I should at least have a little bit more because I earned the presidential scholarship. But no, USC lowered the university grant.

Current financial aid package first, then previous financial aid package.

Deans Scholarship..........................$0....................$7,864
Estimated Cal Grant........................$8,322..............$8,322
Presidential Scholarship...................$15,729.............$0
University Grant.............................$10,036.............$17,901
Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan.......$2,625..............$2,625
Federal Work-Study........................$2,500..............$2,500

Total Financial Aid: $39,212

The difference between your estimated cost of attendance (shown below) and your total financial aid eligibility is: $5,510. EFC: $5,809. I guess it's a fitting package still, but like many people, the EFC isn't quite an accurate figure. There's more to paying for college than a formula.

I received some university grant, but I didn't see any cal grant included in my financial aid package, even though I was eligible for it. Does the university grant include cal grant or is it a separate thing?

Hm, the Calgrant amount that USC listed is actually a bit higher than what I actually received... It says

"This Cal Grant Award is an estimate of your eligibility. Payment can not be made until we receive confirmation of your eligiblity from the California Student Aid Commission."

So do I have to send something in to confirm it? Or does the Commission send it in for me?

I received a letter stating that I am eligible for Cal grant A of $7449.
Yet, in my financial aid package from USC, I didn't see any Cal grant listed. Although I did get an university grant, I was wondering if the Cal grant was just included in my university grant? On the USC financial aid package, should there be Cal grant listed separately from University grant and loans if I did receive it?

I am hoping that some of you (who have posted) still look at this message board, (since you are surely already attending whatever schools that you were accepted into).

Does anyone know, in general, how much the figures (EFC) differ from the FAFSA to the CSS Profile. I realize that it "depends", since each family has a slightly unique situation.

I am curious, if any statistics have been tracked and reported that reflect differences between FAFSA EFC, and CSS Profile analysis. (ex: FAFSA EFC always larger than CSS Profile EFC, or visa-versa).?

thanks

p.s. I already submitted 2006 FAFSA and have the EFC back. I am about a day or two away from submitting the CSS Profile.

All this talk about checking financial aid and I don't even know how to access that Oasis thing. Can I check my financial aid online if I submitted my application by mail? If so, does anyone have the link? Thanks.

Always apply b/c even if you don't get a grant, you could get loans and that'll keep options open when it's time for you parents to write a check.

Thanks much for posting. Since you were willing to post the numbers that you did, I have an additional question. I am assuming that the EFC of 11,000 is what USC calls USC Need, and is how much your (and your parents) need to pay.

My question is this: Do you know how much your FAFSA EFC was/is? (was it higher than the 11,000, lower, or about the same). FAFSA EFC is a number that was computed when your parents filled out the FAFSA form. It came from the organization that runs the FAFS process, not from USC.
