Stingy financial aid.

Emory's financial aid office is the worst i've ever dealt with. I applied last year as a transfer and was accepted but they wouldn't give me any kind of financial aid. I hadn't seen or spoken to my father since I was 16 and he hadn't paid child support since i was 17 but they told me i had to have him turn in all of his financial info before i could get any aid at all. WTF? I was 22 at the time also. He hadn't had anything to do with me financially in 5 years, he had lived on the other side of the country since I was 3, and I had only seen about 5 times that I can remember. We wouldn't even have known how to find him in the first place and if we had there's no way in hell he would have given us any financial info. I applied to several other schools and all of them were much more understanding than Emory. Emory aid office = crap. Its a shame too because they were my first choice school.

that sucks that they couldn't make it easier for you. i know alot of schools make it needlessly difficult for transfers to get good financial aid. you'd think with a 4 billion endowment they wouldn't care that much.

i don't think it was just that i was a transfer. they told me that they have to have all financial info from both parents from everyone regardless of the situation, which seems a little ridiculous to me.

i understand that you wanted to go to emory but i think you need to be less concerned with the ranking system. it's not a big deal that tulane might move out of the top 50 (and i think they won't be ranked next year because of the hurricane) and emory not giving you financial aid doesn't mean that it isn't a good school. the frustration is understandable but it seems like you are trying to dissuade potential applicant from applying which i don't think is fair. sorry if i got that wrong. just my two cents.

the rankings are quite arbitrary but like it or not they are how the rest of the nation judges your school. and sorry but i'm bringing the truth about the financial aid office. emory is a great school in a good city, but their administration blows. they sent me bills for tuition and a dorm for months.
