As of recent i was searching the web for a good college to attend. Luckily i came up with two that struck me as interesting: Stonehill college and Sewanee University of the South. I liked the two because of their small size and the small town surrounding. I'd like to know some differences/ pros/ cons of the two as well as a comparison of both of them.
Regarding the social scene, i do not drink and am not the party type. I was interested in possibly economics/ finance/ English/ I don't know.

Thanks in advance.

Let’s just saw Sewanee’s social scene is not for you.

Stonehill is a good school and Boston is about 45-60 mins. away. I applied in '85 and literally visited while they were planting trees, putting down grass and building dorms-it wasn’t so pretty!(So, although it was once a seminary, as a college it is still relatively young) Now, the campus is quite nice. Not a big name type of school, but a good one. Don’t know how generous they are with financial aid. I wanted my D to apply, but the location was a bit too off the beaten path for her. Now, turns out she is going to a school in an even more rural location, farther from Boston!

My daughter visited Stonehill and did not like it at all. Doesn’t mean it’s not a very good school. I think she should give it another look.

my one concern would be it is very small. You say you don’t drink, which is fine. if the social scene does not go as you would like theres’ not not a whole lot you can do to escape it. there isn’t a whole lot around the school either.

Sewanee is the much better option from an academic standpoint. However, Sewanee may not be right for you since it has a heavy Greek influence and alcohol use is very common. The school is beautiful and great academically but very rural and remote. It also has a very Southern student base and culture which may require a little bit of an adjustment if you are not from that region. My D attends a very Southern LAC, she is from New England, and has had no problems adjusting and absolutely loves the culture.

I think Sewanee is a great LAC for the right fit. I am not sure how much a non drinker would like the experience.

Stonehill is ranked #105 for national LACs, so that isn’t too schleppy considering all the colleges out there. The only way you’ll really know is to visit and maybe do an overnight so you can really meet students and see what the atmosphere is like over a dinner, night in the dorm, attend a class or two, etc.

Thanks everyone for all the replies, i think that really is the only way to get an accurate view of the two colleges.
