Strategies for 700+ in CR?

What are the best strategies for every kind of passage in the CR section to get a 700+?

Do not be afraid to omit questions. On the entire SAT you can still get a great score if you skip 2 questions per section. It doesn’t mean you have to skip 2 per section but if you really need to you can. I skipped 5 questions on all 3 reading sections and still got above a 700.
Also try to absorb yourself into what you are reading; you will remember more info. Make sure to do more reading outside of SAT reading passages. The only way my reading score improved was by memorizing vocab and by reading news articles (my personal favs were from Time Magazine).
For Sentence Comps:
-recognize if you are looking for a word similar or contrasting to the sentence
-anticipate an answer before looking at the choices

  • if you have a two blanker that has no clues as to whether it is similar or contrasting make two anticipations (one similar set and one contrasting set)

For Reading Passages:

  • find the main idea of each paragraph
  • find the main idea for the whole passage
-go back to the passage to find the right answer
  • when looking at the answer choices ask yourself if it is MTA. Mentioned in the passage. True according to the passage. Answers the question being asked.

Hope I helped. Good Luck! :)

I increased my CR from a 590 to a 760.

First, I studied lots of vocab. I went through all the direct hits books and the hot words books and made flash cards for every word I didn’t know. I learned all of those words. I also wrote down all the words in the books I read (for fun) and all the words I didn’t know on practice tests I did. Learning all these words enabled me to only get 1 sentence completion wrong.

For the passages, there are several technique, and you have to find which one works the best. You can either read the questions first/ mark the lines for questions, do those first/ do the “overall” passage questions last. Or you can just go in order of all the question (I liked this method best because there was no chance for me to bubble the answer sheet wrong).

It’s also helpful to underline the passage as you read. This makes it so your attention doesn’t waver from what you’re reading, and you really focus on the passage. It also helped me to first go through the questions pretty fast so I had time to check over every question at least once and find evidence in the passage for why the answer I chose was right.

Finally, do lots of practice tests, and review EVERY question on them, not just the ones you got wrong.

Good luck! Hope this helps.
