Have any women heard from Straw Hats yet??
The D still hasn’t submitted. Sigh…
I think my D submitted about 11/10ish. No word yet.
Yes. D submitted the first day allowed and has received her acceptance.
Mine is not going this year, but I have heard of people who have received their yeses.
I know I have a MWTAs slot. Still waiting to apply to TCUTAs, as I won’t meet one of their audition criteria until I begin second semester and find out what kind of a role I have in next semester’s play here.
I can’t stress this enough: Get solid audition cut videos (including a short dance reel) and SUBMIT IT TO THEATRES. We. cast. from. videos.
@TheaterHiringCo - Is it a good idea to submit videos to theaters, even if that option is not listed under “Auditions” on their websites? Some theaters tend to not update their website information very frequently and I’m just wondering if it’s OK to submit that way, even if they are not specifically addressing it?
@CanadianMTgirl - way to go on getting an MWTA slot! That baby filled up fast. S submitted application to OTA over Thanksgiving and received notification within a week.
@vvnstar - Do you know when your daughter heard? Mine hasn’t even gotten an email saying her package was received.
D got her Strawhats confirmation of audition slot today via email.
@shaun0203 - Nov 16th.
@mom4bwayboy - Absolutely! I have never advertised video auditions and still get a few hundred by early April. (I got four or five this week.) This will be the first year we actively seek them out (through emails to college department chairs) - we are hoping for 500-700 videos.
Whatever your standard package is - just a nice solid cut of it. Dance reels are important (for summer stocks, at least).
The D has found that most of the theaters she’s happened upon explicitly state “no video submissions”. It’d be nice to be able to got to a source or two to find out which ones do, or at least don’t state either way. My accountant mind can’t process all the unknowns.
@mom4bwayboy Since our program is right in the middle of the Midwest, MWTAs are a big deal for us! Many of us had 8AM jazz when the MWTAs slots opened, so our head of dance let us bring our laptops in and submit as soon as registration opened. You really did have to get in in the first 15 minutes!
Congrats to your daughter, @kategrizz . I think my daughter shipped her things by slow boat or something. I told her she needs to follow up.
@shaun0203 - I think I would definitely check with them to make sure they got all of her information if she sent it a few weeks ago. My D is far away, so I honestly am not sure if she got an email saying her materials had been received but I’m pretty sure she did. The only reason I know the date she found out she got a slot was because it is still in my texts But I don’t think it would hurt to call tomorrow just to make sure the materials had been received. Hope all goes well!
S got his Strawhats confirmation of audition this week!
Has anyone been to either the Ohio Theatre Alliance or the Midwest Theatre Conference before, If so could you share your thoughts or experiences… thank you
My S went to OTAs last year and will be going again this year. Overall its was a good experience for a newbie at unified professional auditions. He was a freshman looking for summer work, so I really can’t speak to the experience of those who are looking for full-time/post graduation work. Only a few of the venues are of a calibre to be able to offer equity points for summer ensemble work, but some of the theaters are recognized on a national level and amusement parks like Cedar Point are there (although we were told that by January most of the on-stage jobs at Cedar point have been filled at earlier auditions). Some of the summer work is at outdoor historical drama venues. The audition is well run and the staff was very friendly and helpful (S insisted he didn’t need to bring hard copy head shots and they were nice enough to allow him to print from their office printer.) My S had several callbacks, received a few verbal “promises” of “we would love to have you in our company and you’ll get an email offer from us in a few weeks” that never materialized in actuality (apparently some sort of standard practice, b/c it was repeated at SETC), and got one very nice “real” offer. If you are looking for additional details, feel free to PM me.
