There are many posts on the U. Toronto sub-reddit about how miserable and stressed out students are – but all of these posts seem to be from Engineering and CS majors (and Pre-Med too). And I realize that Reddit attracts way more negative posts than positive ones. So…can anyone here comment on the stress level and grade deflation at UT for non-STEM majors?
I have a child who graduated from U of T (non-STEM) and a child at Waterloo (STEM). I also graduated from U of T in STEM.
IME, STEM students have a higher stress level than non-STEM. With STEM students, the stress eventually works itself out by upper years. The stress comes from being at the top of your class in high school and finding out in university that you’re no longer at the top of your class. AND from worrying that you won’t get into grad school.
Reddit attracts a lot of complainers, imo. It’s also been exam season recently.
My non-STEM kid had a direct correlation between effort and grade in his classes. He got plenty of As.
