Currently I'm signed up as a poli sci major but I'm really not sure about what I'll end up majoring in for real... so I could anybody give a list of all the majors that Cal is good for. Just so I know what I can fall back on if poli sci just isn't my thing.

Cal is good at everything because its graduate programs are top 5 at everything. However, just because the department is good doesn't mean your individual professor or class experience might be good. Ask around and find out more about the professors you'd like to work with or learn from. Don't forget also to learn about the GSI's because some are much better than others.

yes, cal is good at everything

u might want to shop around for classes the first week and learn to love www.ratemyprofessors.com

ratemyprofessor.com is often incomplete (some professors are not rated at all) and now they only offer the 3 most recent ratings. Its better to ask around for a more representative sample of students. Ratemyprofessor has self-selection for the students who either really liked or hated the teacher.

Also, much of your learning experience is dependent on GSI's which you won't find information on at ratemyprofessor.com. Tread carefully, your GSI is your best friend or greatest enemy.

I think there needs to be more GSI oversight, but who am I to complain? I rarely get classes where I'm taught by a GSI anymore. Those Freshman/Sophomore Lower-Div GSIs can make your life miserable though, they seem to have very fragile egos. ;)

And another thing, you aren't a Graduate Student Instructor. Cut the PC ********. You are a teaching assistant. It's like the girlfriend who waits tables and claims to be a actress.
