Strong EC's and Ultra URM (Native American), Bad GPA Revisited---Chances?

I just talked to my GC and apparently I have a UW 4.0 instead of a 3.6…LOL

@skieurope how would my app now compare to yours since now I have a 4.0 uw?

I think you have a very good chance! I can clearly see what you’re passionate about, and if you make that clear in your essays, I think you’ll be just fine. What other schools are you considering so far?

Since absolutely nobody here is an admissions officer at those colleges, nobody can accurately chance you. Those colleges are a crapshoot for **everybody/b. All you can you is apply and hope for the best.

I have to ask then what is the point of these what are my chances threads?

Any other opinions?

How can you be confused and unable to calculate a perfect, straight-A’s gpa?

uw = “unweighted” i.e. “raw”
4.0 is the maximum value on the scale from 0 - 4.0

Therefore, a 4.0 uw means straight A’s.

How can you be confused and unable to calculate that? LOL is right!

Our school has a weird way to calculate GPA. @ItsJustSchool what do you think of my chances?

Algorithms can be weird for calculations. However at the endpoints (0.0 and 4.0) there can be no ambiguity. There is a huge difference between 3.6 (what you came up with the second time you calculated it, revised from a lower number) and 4.0

1/1=1

100-0 = 100

Perfect = perfect

Unweighted means raw.

Did you EVER get below an ‘A’? If so, your GPA is not 4.0. If not, your GPA is 4.0.

@ItsJustSchool By that scale, it is a 3.6, but printed on my transcript is a 4.0. From other sources, the GPA on the transcript is the one colleges consider. So with that out of the way, do you have any comments about the subject of the thread?

if you don’t get in, then the rest of us mortals are screwed

No, the rest of us aren’t making this up. Gee, didn’t perfect cold fusion in their spare time? What a slacker :wink:

Gotta love this stuff.

" the GPA on the transcript is the one colleges consider."

That’s not the case at all.

They all look at the grades for the individual classes, and then, applying whatever criteria they choose, compute a scores that incorporates their standards and puts all their applicants on a level playing field. I mean, honestly, what do you think they would do?

C’Mon. You guys know that older threads should not be resurrected. Closing.
