I don’t have a clear direction yet for what majors I’m interested, so I’m looking to apply to well rounded schools so I keep my options open. I know many liberal arts colleges are more limiting simply because they are smaller and have fewer professors, so I just want to get a clear idea of what Amherst’s strongest and weakest majors are.
Thanks!

The economics, english, neuroscience, history, LJST (Law, Jurisprudence and Social Thought), language (except spanish), philosophy, and classics departments here are all really good from what I’ve heard. The only department I’ve heard bad things about from a lot of students is the Spanish department. The math department is growing and has a lot of incredible professors. I don’t know much about the other departments but I’d assume that they’re all between decent and outstanding. Just don’t come here if your goal is to major in Spanish.

How is the physics department? I’ve noticed that many science departments don’t offer very many classes. Do a lot of students go on to graduate school or earn fellowships in the sciences?
