Struggling in college so far

So i am struggling in my classes so far. I feel like i know nothing going on in any of them. Last semester which was my first semester at this big state university i got a 2.5 because i got a D in one of my courses. If i get below a 1.5 which isnt hard from a 2.5 you literally have to fail like one class you get kicked out im scared worried dont know what to do. Im always busy i am in a fraternity which consumes so much time. I also work a couple week nights from 6-11. So much HW and so little time to do it.. SO little time to hang out with friends i just dont know how to regain my ground now.

You should ask yourself several questions,

Why are you asking random people online for help?

Why are you in a sorority?

Why are you going to school at all?

Well, OP is in a frat, not a sorority. But assuming you WANT to regain the ground, I would suggest that you:

Probably give up the frat. Grades are more important than your social life. Especially if you are on the verge of flunking out.

Do you need the job to cover expenses? Assuming you do… but 10 hours a week is not a ton to work if you manage your time well.

My guess is that you have poor study habits and don’t have any help (tutoring, study groups, going to professor office hours). You need to fix those things if you want to succeed. A few suggestions:

Block off time to study, and go someplace that is not your room to do it. Library, study space, etc. Not just evenings, but if you have down time during the day between classes.

Plan out your work based on what you know is coming due in your courses. Start larger projects early, and studying for exams early as well.

On nights you don’t have to work, take your study materials with you to dinner and keep on going to the library or other study area after you eat. Don’t get bogged down by going back to your dorm or the frat, where many temptations besides studying await.

If you are struggling with the material, go to professor or TA office hours regularly. Still struggling, ask if they can recommend a tutor. If anyone in your class wants to form a study group, do that. If you are STILL struggling, maybe you are in the wrong major (you don’t say what major you are in, but some – like engineering – are very difficult).

Plan some downtime into your schedule – a couple of workouts a week, Fri and/or Sat night off IF you have your coursework under control. Note - if you get wasted on a weekend night, lots of time that shoots a lot of the next day for getting work done because you are hung over. You probably can’t afford this right now if you are on the verge of probation/getting kicked out. So… light or no booze use until you have your GPA squared away is my advice.

Find a studious significant other, they will be a good influence. :D

Your friends will likely be on your case to come with them, go to parties, hang out. But THEY are not the ones about to flunk out, you are. You really have to develop some self discipline to chart your own path and focus on the reason you came to college, to get a degree and ultimately prepare yourself for a career.

im struggling too :(

Agree with the above suggestions . Also put the Fraternity on the side for now. If you devote the time you are devoting to the Fraternity to academics, I think you will have the situation in control.

You can fix this. The point is do you want to? If yes, then, “catch the bull by the horns” and give it your best shot. Be willing to do what it takes to turn things around. Nothing is impossible.

Talk to the academic chair of your fraternity. He might be able to set you up with a tutor to help you succeed. He will also be able to get you excused from fraternity activities until you get your grades up.

Use the academic resources available at your school. I am sure there is a tutoring center and an office that helps you develop the skills you need for academic success. Go talk to your professors or TAs and ask them to go over what you have turned in so far, and explain to you what is lacking/missing in your work.

I think you need to drop the frat. What’s more important, being in a frat or getting your grades up?

Drop the frat. The work seems manageable, but you might want to request shifts on the weekends so you can space out between homework, class, and work.

Your college most likely won’t drop you if you fall to minimum GPA unless it’s a continuing trend. I don’t know the specifics, but you’d probably get thrown on probation first. They tell you to boost your grades up during a time period, and if they don’t go up then they’ll “drop you”.(In reality, there’s most likely a fairly easy appeal process to stay in there.) The appeal will probably get accepted, and your counselors will probably highly recommend you take easier courses … and THENNN you’re on your final straw.

… or well, that’s how it went with three of my friends(all of them are in UCs though).

^ yup, sounds right

Forgot to mention the writing center. If your college has one, use it for any papers you have due. Most will let you come in twice – once with a rough draft and again when you are closer to finished. You can’t wait until the last minute, though, and may need an appointment. But this will definitely help you if you are having trouble with papers.
