Have any of you had any?

I currently have one for one of my TAs and don't really know what to do about it.

Have any of you had any?

I currently have one for one of my TAs and don't really know what to do about it.

Why yes I have.

We are bff now :).

Ask your TA out :).

There is a big difference between having a crush on a teacher and a TA. You can date your TA but they shouldn’t be the one grading any of your work.

TA’s arent teachers.

OMG, I had a big crush on one of my profs in college (back in the stone age). he was an italian jew, and i thought he was so exotic. then i looked him up in the faculity directory, found out his address, and did a drive by his house (which i believe is now called stalking).

i was so disappointed to see that he had web lawn chairs on his front porch. i could never love a man who had the bad taste to keep web furniture in his front porch (this is the kind of thing one takes to a ball game, and then stores in their garage). i could never look at the man again with the same adour.

Dang wolfpackmom, harsh!!!

There’s still that dilemma of professionalism.

: P Asking the person out would probably be best left after the quarter/year is done.

I might purely do it out of catharsis.

Haha, that professionalism totally flew over my head! I did not even consider it. Do it whenever and tell us how it goes haha.

This is the type of thread that makes you go

aaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww ;)

aww so cute :D

As a TA, we are not allowed to date anyone in which there would be conflict of interest issues. Therefore, that means, if you are a student and you like you TA - you cannot date your TA without the risk of your TA getting into trouble.

If you really think its worth it… wait out the quarter and then date your TA when he/she doesn’t have any say in any of your grades.

As a TA, have you ever been approached with this situation?

I don’t mean the crush role reversed. Still student liking->teacher

what is your opinion on it?

I haven’t been approached with this situation. Primarily b/c this is my first quarter TAing and, in any case, I have a boyfriend.

I would just be wary of the situation. I wouldn’t want to be in the position to get myself into trouble so, I personally would not allow myself to get into that situation in the first place (i.e. flirt with my students.) I don’t so much object to undergrads and graduate students dating as long as the grad student has no say in your grade.

ah ok
one of my former TAs has been dating one of his students for the last 2 years. they started dating after the class ended . . .

oh yea, i know that same couple too. pretty cute, and they get along well because he’s pretty mature.

If you read a TA contract, it explicitly says this !

Does anyone find it awkward?

so last week i went to the gym, and i think i saw my ex-TA!! I had the biggest crush on him. His office hours are the only OH i ever went to (including professor’s).
i was (and still am, i guess) obsessed with him that at the end of the quarter couple quarters back, i even wrote him an email about how i felt.
i just wanted to share how happy i was when i saw him again!

teeeheeee

Did he reply?

yeah, he did!
i didn’t say it in a very straight forward way (like… omg i love you!)… i just said he was a great TA, and so interesting, etc etc, and very cute…
lol
and he just wrote “thanks! it’s always nice to get compliments. have a great summer!”

sigh.
i miss his pretty face.

Hahaha, reminds me a bit of the time I was going to Westwood via Court of Sciences / south campus route, and I saw some writings on the dust of the windows on the buildings (I think McDonald Medical Research Labs) “Ian Andrews is cute” or hot, I forgot. (He’s a chem lab TA that I coincidentally met the day before… )
