Hey Everyone,
I was accepted about 2 weeks ago, I paid my tuition deposit and orientation fee and have already been assigned an orientation date. Anyway, when does Stony Brook give you your student e-mail address? I was looking at the FAQ's on SB's IT website and it says that 'e-mail addresses for new students are automatically generated and to check SOLAR to find it." Do they give you an e-mail after orientation maybe?

It's your NetID @ic.sunysb.edu

however when i go to the sec and personal data page NETID MAINTENANCE does not show up

I don't remember correctly if they give the netid to you in the mail or during orientation. But it's one of those. You just got accepted, you probably won't see those username/passwords coming up.

If it didn't show up, i guess they haven't given you a netID yet.

Thanks guys! Yeah, I wasn't assigned a NetID yet, which is why it isn't under my personal data in SOLAR either. I'll probably get it during orientation.

I have my netID, but don't know how to access email yet...

Chris

It says we can find it on solar, but then it says we have to make one at the school... So what is that about?

You will be able to find it in Solar under "NetId Maintenance." After I got accepted, NetID Maintenance appeared in my solar page (under security and personal data) about a month later, which is when you get your netId

Alright I will try that, thanks...

This is soo confusing... I got my netid and everything, but it says all this stuff like "Sparky id" and "Webmail id" where do we get all of this...? Chris when I clicked your link it said it would either be generated automatically, or we have to go in person to get it. Where would it be generated? I got my NetID, but that isn't working with my password, and I know my password works...

Supposedly, we get our email addresses at orientation :-S

Then what is the point of setting up all these netid's and junk like that....? I am soooo confused. Chris enlighten us?

you need a net id so you can access blackboard. blackboard is a site where you get all your class info [like lectures, homework, grades etc] for most classes. a lot of teachers also post announcements on it as well. club info and campus-wide info is also on it.
you also need a netid to access the computers on campus on your account [that way you can print stuff].
