My financial aid package unexpectedly changed, and while Vanderbilt has given me a better gift-based amount, my expected student contribution also rose to ~$3,000/year.

So my questions are:

What are some examples of student employment?

How much do they normally pay/ month (a range would be great)?

I know there's more info on HireADore, but I cannot log onto that yet.

Thanks!

HireADore has tons of random jobs all over campus. Most common are working in the dining center or working at some random front desk (aka sitting around and doing homework), but then there are a bunch of more diverse positions throughout campus- research assistants, helping set up for events, etc. You can also get a job around campus in a restaurant. My only advice is to look and apply asap.

You can expect most of them to basically pay about 8.00 to 8.50 an hour. I think work-study jobs tend to pay a little more because your paycheck is subsidized by the government (not much more though). You’ll probably work about 10 hours a week (which would amount to nearly $3000 a year), but you can usually decide how many hours you want.

The “expected student contribution” is totally optional by the way. They expect you to contribute $3000. You certainly don’t have to, as long as the bills get paid. Personally I declined my work-study (but ended up getting a job on campus anyway).

Thanks for the info!
