Hi guys, I'm currently a junior in high school. During sophomore year, I was a part of the Sophomore Advisory Council. During middle school, I was in the Student Government for 7th and 8th grade. Does that mean much in my college application? Does it give a sense that I can show good leadership qualities or something along the lines of that?

The common app is specific about showing only 9/10/11/12 grade activities. Student government is not the type of thing from middle school to put on. The only legit things my kids have had from middle school to put on are (1) one of them was on the high school varsity sports team in 7th & 8th grade, and lettered. So she did put that in as part of her accomplishments in that sport. (2) One of my kids had a volunteer activity she had done for 9 years, and she had an impressive cumulative total of accomplishment that was part of that. So she put that down.

But there are very few instances when you would put a middle school activity down…

Okay, thanks!
